Learn how to beat one of the added bosses, the mighty dragon Nidhogg, in Assassin's Creed Valhalla's newest rogue-like DLC, Forgotten Saga.

As the Allfather, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players must face the legendary dragon, Nidhogg, in the Forgotten Saga DLC. Players must defeat this creature of Norse myth in order to travel further through the Nine Realms and face the Goddess Hel. Nidhogg can be a difficult boss to challenge, but there are a few ways to even out the fight.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's newest DLC, the Forgotten Saga, allows players to unleash the fury of the Norse gods as Odin, the Allfather, and explore mystical realms. Starting the Forgotten Saga requires gameplay as Eivor on Midgard but eventually the questline "A Gift from the Otherworld" will appear and the saga opened.

Four new areas are unlocked with this DLC, including plenty of new enemies, such as the poisonous Nidhogg of the Nidheim realm. Due to the Rogue-like nature of this DLC, players will need to choose their weapons and armor carefully in order to face the Master of Nidheim and his wraith lackeys. The key to completing this DLC is using health wisely, as upon death, Odin will respawn back at camp and a new run will begin.

Setting Odin up with permanent abilities such as Summoned Courage and base skills like Brush with Death will increase the chance of survival. By the time Odin reaches the boss of Nidheim, the basics of the Niflheim skill tree should be learned, anything less, and the Allfather will need to make more upgrades before facing Nidhogg. Researching quick ways to progress through Forgotten Saga is essential to surviving in more difficult areas like Nidheim. This boss fight is mostly melee and survival based, so Odin will need a decently powerful medium-ranged weapon such as greatswords, spears, and axes (albeit, axes can slow the character down.)

The final item to give the Allfather a winning edge is the Einherjar’s armor set won from Hjalmgunnar the Unforgiver, the boss from Dokkerland. Upgrading this armor will allow the player to dual-wield two heavy weapons, which can be an alternative to the greatsword or spear. With this armor, weapons, abilities, and the knowledge that Nidhogg’s weakness is fire damage, Odin will be ready to face the dragon. Unlike Asgard's fast-travel exit feature, Niflheim's only exit is death, so be prepared as possible.

The first part of the battle is very straightforward, Nidhogg will fly over the arena spraying poison before landing. The four health bars below Nidhogg’s main health bar represent his legs, the player will want to charge and attack each leg while avoiding the dragon’s breath attacks. When all four legs have crumbled, the dragon will attempt to fly but crash into the ground. Odin should target Nidhogg’s neck with strong attacks to get in as much damage as possible. If Odin's attacks not doing enough damage in the time that the dragon is down, consider switching to a two-handed weapon or dual-wield.

The second part of the boss fight begins when Nidhogg’s health drops to the halfway point, the dragon will stand up again with more attacks. Players simply need to dodge and continue using fire damage on the dragon’s legs until it falls again. However, death is not the end for Nidhogg. When his health bar falls to zero, wraiths will appear and heal him back to the halfway point. Odin will now have to defeat the resurrected Nidhogg and his wraith lackeys in order to go any further into Nidheim. Luckily, the legs-then-neck attack works in all three phases of the boss battle, players will just need to stay alive long enough to attack.

Once Nidhogg has fallen, players will be free to go further into Nidheim and onto Helheim, where Odin’s forsaken daughter awaits. Hel, much like how Sutr the final boss of Dawn of Ragnarok DLC, acts as the ultimate boss fight to the Forgotten Saga DLC. This path is just one of many ways to defeat the dragon, the beauty of rogue-like games is that each run has the promise of being different. Assassin's Creed Valhalla players are free to choose how they want to explore the Nine Realms in the Forgotten Saga DLC and conquer their enemies, like the unlucky Nidhogg.
